^ I think you'll be pleased with the Generals. Continental will be as well. And they give you 45 days to decide. I just put the X3s on, and they are the quietest mud-ish tire I've run. Pleased with them so far as well, but the ice test is yet to be tried. 8-)

Verdict is in, these things are sick. Took them snow wheeling with two inches of fresh dry powder on top of a hard base, with drifts up to ~12 inches, and a few steep hills that I was worried about. These tires gripped like crazy. I had no loss of traction on the hills, and they clawed through every drift I could find. On ice, they're a studded tire, 'nuff said about that.

If you need a dedicated winter tire that you can wheel on, this tire in this configuration is a killer setup.Image

Hey guys, I just started a thread asking this question, but I'm hoping I may get some feedback in this thread if that one gets nothing.

I just had BFG KO2s put on the truck. I've noticed that during acceleration (even very mild), I hear the rear tires making a scuffing sound, much like what it sounds like when you turn the steering wheel while stationary on pavement. But this sound is constant during acceleration, and stops as soon as I take my foot off the accelerator. Shop guy said this is normal for KO2s, but since I haven't ever heard this before, I am looking for some more input -0 particularly if any of you have experienced this. I should say the tires have about 100 miles on them now and the sound is no different than Day 1.

Yep thats normal. Thats the sound of the tread crying as two of the tires are pushing an 8000 pound truck around.

Im running the 35x12.5/17’s. I have had them at 58 front and 48 rear (cold pressure) for a while now and that has been pretty decent. Not quite a full contact patch in the rear, but the front chews up the edges so it eventually evens out after a rotation.

37x12.50r17 BFG KM3. I've had these on for about 1000 miles and love them so far. They are the quietest MT I have had, comparing to a Cooper STT/MTP and Nitto Trail Grappler. Ride smooth on the road and have tons of grip on dirt and rock. I have not been in much mud or any snow yet. I also do not have any rubbing while turning and haven't noticed any while flexing. Pretty sure they measure 36.5" without being mounted. I did measure the rear mounted and on the truck with 35 psi and it come in at about 36", maybe a tad bit under. They definitely do run narrower as far as tread width which I love since I don't rub on stock suspension.

Those BFG KM3 really look good; I would be interested to hear how they work in the mud and snow....

The KM 3 is out standing in the snow. Best snow tire I have ever had. We have had many deep snows and solid ice events in my neighborhood, at times the PW is the only one to make it out. I also drove to Taos in a huge storm, never felt bad at all.
2018 Flame Red, Moon Roof, Dual Alternators, Ram Boxes sadly Ram ran out of, Luxo Package with 8.4 UConnect, Enter and Go with remote start, Auto Wipers and Lights. Added missing skids and White Knuckle sliders. 35" BFG KM3s. Procal and Warn wireless remote for winch.

You mean best snow performance for a mud tire? If not, Im guessing youve never had n actual snow tire before?

I have never used a snow tire specifically, and have never seen the need. I am not someone who wants to change tires 2x a year to drive in some snow. Mud Terrains and All Terrains do plenty well. Granted they have gotten better, but I lived at 11,200' (Saints John) back in 1992 and have driven with these tires since. Snow tires are for vehicles that don't go off-road and have no need for aggressive, wide tread or heavy duty side walls in my mind. In that case you trade them out 2x a year for better ride, MPG, less wear, ect. How much benefit is there really over a modern off-road tire? And what if I want to make a winter time trail run, do I change tires again? I assume like the Dura Trash snow tires are not going to hold up to rocks.

As far as on road driving goes, designated snow tires are night and day better. In my short 19 years of driving (all with northern michigan winters, though) I have learned that mud tires suck on winter roads, a/t’s are much better and very acceptable, and designated snow tires are even better than those.

That being said, everyone has their average uses and compromises. I almost never put snow tires on my trucks. But back when I drove a front wheel drive minivan for work year round, your damn right it got a full set of snowies.

Honestly, I am excited to hear your comments on snow performance of the KM3.

I'm interested too! lol We don't get serious mud here in AZ unless we get a crazy week where it rains all week which is rare. I'll hopefully test them in the snow soon. I'm waiting for a snow storm so I can go skiing.

None of the M/T tires are going to be in the same league as a dedicated snow tire for snow traction and performance. Studding will get you half way there for snow and ice, but you can't use them year round in most locations.

Although, for slow going, in the deepest snow, chains all around will be more effective than any snow tire. :D

Been running Nokian Rockproof myself in 315/70/17. Great tire all around. Snow is ok too but we don't get it so bad here like the rest of Canada. 9000km on them so far.

Been running an oil burner for awhile now but miss my wagon. Still creep around here for info once in awhile; much less crap to sift thru than elsewhere on the interwebs.

Replaced my 37x12.50r17 Toyo mts with Maxxis Razr Mts in the same size. Had a hard time finding any actual long term reviews on them anywhere, but they are on sale now for $300 per tire and come with a 40,000 mile tread life warranty. Loved the Toyo mts and got around 50k miles out of them (don't know exactly mileage because it was spread across 2 trucks) but they had developed a whopping vibration above 60 mph. Under 1,000 miles on the Razrs but the highway noise is minimal for an MT and they roll super smooth. Really like them so far but will update with more mileage on them.

Also, I ran a set of Toyo RTs prior to the mts, and wouldn't consider the RTs again. The mts were barely louder, had similar road manners, and performed much better off pavement.

Time for a move to 37s. I'm running 35 (33?) K02 today - honestly despite the hate that tire gets, I have no complaints other than how small they run for a given size. Off-road they've handled the narrow, mostly sand/dirt/clay trails around here, the sand, rocks, and roots of Great Sand Dunes / Medano Pass, the smooth rock trail into Arches, and rocky trails through the Black Hills NF with not so much as a hiccup. On-road, no issues at 75mph in the rain on the highway or through the long/icy Michigan winter.

If I run an AT again, it will likely be the K02 just because I can't fault the set I'm on now. However, considering going to an MT or a hybrid - the want says yes for something more aggressive, the head says no because "Michigan winters".

My current shortlist in likely order of consideration are Toyo RT, Falken MT, Toyo MT, KM3. Thinking Toyo RT is probably smartest given Michigan winters.

What would you do in my (soon to be new) shoes?

Oh yeah, their first workout will be the 24 hour highway drive to Utah... the second workout will be PWIM. :cheers:

i would cross shop the K02 and toyo RT as both AT. The MT and RT toyos are two ends of the spectrum.
spec separates the k02 and RT, but they return similar results.

i have yet to see the actual performance of the RT as a true mud tire, but people track/trail race with them.
It does have a quality carcass that ultimately wont pop. Tougher then the K02.

toyo wont pop trickled into the RT from the MT.

i run 35 RT and mostly love them... wet traction is not the best, but dry can be superb when warm. offroad, never been stuck and they shed mud fine.

i really have no experience in Winter traction on these, but im the kind of person that would have a dedicated winter Setup...cant drive recklessly without winter tires. i would not imagine they are all that great.

Toyo MT and RT will return two different lifestyles for you.
True MTs are in a world of their own, And i cringe for the people who daily drive on MTs.

My truck is pretty much a toy. So I'm probably going to 37MTs so I'll have them at the end of the month. The drive to Moab might be interesting.

if its a toy or strictly utility, then MT is the only option for a powerwagon!
just due to carcass strength really.

Definitely interested in feedback on the Centramatics. I was considering them but decided to wait and see how the STT Pros balanced out conventionally. A dynamic balancer like that makes sense to me though on an off-road vehicle.

My STT Pros took 2oz on two tires and 4oz on two tires to balance. I don't think that's too bad for a larger aggressive tire but I'm not super familiar with what is "normal". Went with 315/70R17.
